Nature in Denbighshire

Habitats and Species in Denbighshire
In Denbighshire we are lucky to have a range of important habitats on our doorstep – from heather moorlands to coastal sand dunes, woodlands to limestone grasslands – which support an array of species. Key highlights include black grouse, dormice, natterjack toads and sand lizards. Our county flower – limestone woundwort – is found nowhere else in Wales.

Local Biodiversity Action Plan Partnership
Denbighshire is part of the North East Wales LBAP Partnership, which brings together biodiversity work in Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. The Partnership unites key organisations including North Wales Wildlife Trust, Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, North East Wales Wildlife, Natural Resources Wales as well as local organisations and interested individuals. We meet twice yearly.

Biodiversity Projects
We carry out a range of biodiversity projects with different partners. Some current projects include habitat improvements for water voles on the River Wheeler, juniper restoration on Prestatyn Hillside, Himalayan balsam control and provision of nest boxes for barn owls.
