What to expect at events

There will be something for everyone – events for individuals, families and those who are new to nature, to the more seasoned nature lover.

Wales Nature Week events are held each year at Wildlife Trust and RSPB reserves, local and national nature reserves, parks and community green spaces, schools and worship sites, beaches and coastal areas.

A typical event involves a guided walk at a nature site. An expert guide will point out plants and animals and the importance of the habitat and answer any questions you have. The vast majority of events are free*

*Entrance charge to a small selection of events may apply. This supports the valuable work the organisation carries out for nature.

Awareness raising events

• Public Health Wales will be sharing stories and photos each day on our internal channels during Wales Nature Week of what staff are doing in their own gardens to make space for nature. Our June action in our sustainability calendar is ‘Give Nature a Home’ and we have a Green Advocates Network workshop staff can attend for top tips and inspiration!
• Celebrating Wales Nature Week through reading with Carmarthenshire Libraries during Wales Nature Week, as well as getting out to explore nature in Carmarthenshire, why not explore nature at your local library? Reading nature books will introduce you to new species and habitats, places to visit, local walking routes and help you appreciate and understand the natural world around you.
• To celebrate Wales Nature Week the Cardiff Local Nature Partnership launched a wildlife gardening competition. Entries are open to all whether you have a small window box, hanging basket, bucket- sized pond, raised planter, community garden, roof garden, or a traditional front or back garden. Your entry will contribute to a city-wide map to show where wildlife – friendly gardens are in Cardiff.

• Natur am Byth! High Brown Fritillary project officer attended the Celebration of nature event at St Fagans Museum on 29th June to raise awareness of this rare and beautiful butterfly.
• There will be an inaugural St Brides Major Butterfly Sculpture Competition, with the winners announced on 2nd July 7pm at the Fox, St Brides Major – in conjunction with Caitlin Jenkins (Ewenny Pottery) we are encouraging every household in St Brides Major to create a butterfly sculpture to celebrate the High Brown Fritillary.
• Join the Cemlyn wardens for a guided walk around our amazing Cemlyn Nature Reserve on the north west tip of Anglesey and see the sandwich, common and Arctic terns nesting at this spectacular seabird colony. Book your place here
• 1st July Ysgol Llanbedrog took part in a Seagrass Walk at Porthdinllaen as part of the Natur am Byth! Project Môr
• The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust Cymru Curlew Team in the Vale of Montgomeryshire and Treowen in Wales Nature Week highlighting the Curlew Connections Wales project which aims to increase curlew breeding success in Wales.
• Monmouthshire County Council are holding a FIT Count activity specifically with Abergavenny secondary school pupils supported by Gwent Green Grid.
• Wales Nature Week: Beach Clean with Ysgol Cynfran: During Wales Nature Week, The Wild Oyster Project, in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, took students from Ysgol Cynfran to Kinmel Bay for an impactful beach clean. This hands-on activity provided the students with a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving our coastal environment and habitats.
• Workshop with Ysgol Bryn Elian: On July 12th, they hosted an engaging workshop with students from Ysgol Bryn Elian. They demonstrated their ongoing efforts to restore the native oyster population and their habitats. This workshop aimed to inspire the students to care for the marine environment and become future marine stewards contributing to increased ocean literacy.
• Results of activities: The Wild Oysters created a positive impact on the students and the community, fostering a greater appreciation for our coastal and marine ecosystems. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported these initiatives!
